General meeting with Caterpillar, Inc.
Date: Tuesday, January 29, 2008
Time: 5:30 PM – 6:30 PM
Location: 2005 Mechanical
Engineering Laboratory
Caterpillar, Inc. is the world's leader in earthmoving equipment, diesel engines, and financial products. Since posting record profits annually for several years now, Caterpillar has beat investors' predictions and continues to strengthen its product and financial bases. Come to a technical topics seminar with this leader to learn about internship opportunities and global outreach. This is one of three events before the spring career fair, so take this chance to prepare!
2. EOH Committee Meeting
Date: Wednesday, January 30th
Time: 7 PM
Location: TBA
We are hosting three different
exhibits this year for EOH. The first is a resurrection of last year's penny smasher that will punch a Block I into aluminum disks using
a machined die and vice. The second is an interactive exhibit of a hydraulic
dump truck that will simulate how a truck bed is lifted, and the third is an
exhibit about distracted driving that will feature computer simulations
requiring participants' attention for both simulated driving and an alternate
task.
We will be having weekly EOH meetings for anyone interested in getting involved
every Wednesday at 7 PM starting January
30th.
3.
General meeting with Northrop-Grumman
Date: Tuesday, February 5, 2008
Time: 5:30 PM – 6:30 PM
Location: 1320 DCL
Come attend an information meeting
with Northrop-Grumman, a leader in the defense sector, and enjoy free dinner!
Topics will include engineering coursework and its relevance to an engineer in
industry, career advancement, and job opportunities available at
Northrop-Grumman. This event occurs during the same week as Spring EXPO, so
take advantage of this opportunity to get ready by asking plenty of questions!
4. ME for Me Conference
Date: Saturday February 9th, 2008
Come out to an all day event focusing on the various career paths available for
mechanical engineers. Representatives from Caterpillar, GE, Rolls Royce,
Ingersoll Rand Tools, and Shell will present and be available for questions.
The event includes lunch catered by Panera and a
raffle at the end of the day. The timing is perfect for those looking for jobs
and internships, as it falls on the weekend between two career fairs. It is
also a good way for students new to engineering to learn about career
opportunities. Sign-ups will be online soon and for more information please
contact Kirk Strebel at strebel2@uiuc.edu.
5. General meeting with Whirlpool
Date: Tuesday, February 12, 2008
Time: 5:30 PM – 6:30 PM
Location: TBA (see website)
Whirlpool is perhaps best known for
its KitchenAid line of kitchen appliances; little
known to students is its WERLD program, a leadership development program that
is nearly unparalleled in the industry. Come to an informational meeting to
learn more about opportunities at Whirlpool and the WERLD program; free
smoothies will be served! The spring career fair, hosted by ECS, is this week,
so this is an excellent chance to learn more about a company and its
employment.
6. General meeting with Motorola
Date: Tuesday, February 19, 2008
Time: 5:30 PM – 6:30 PM
Location: TBA (see website)
Motorola pioneered the realm of
smaller cell phones with its Razr (R) -- perhaps one
of the best-known cell phones on the market today. Come to this informational
seminar as Motorola discusses internship opportunities, international
experiences, and more! As always, dinner's on us.
7. ASME wants YOUR opinion
on events!
As we prepare for another semester full of activities to best serve you, we
would love to hear your feedback about various events. At the end of the
survey, a $25 gift card will be awarded, so please take this brief survey to
tell us what you want to see from our events. Although NetIDs
will be stored, they will only be used for awarding the gift card. Results
presented to the ASME team will not contain NetIDs. Hurry,
the survey closes January 25 !!
