          When: Wednesday, February 28. 7 p.m.

Patrick and a group of student engineers began designing and building small, efficient solar panel-charged and battery-operated LED lanterns for the replacement of kerosene in the developing world. The LED lantern provides the first economical modern light source for the world's most isolated citizens. The project recently won a phase-one $10,000 grant from the   U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) in what are called the "P3" (People, Prosperity, and the Planet) awards.  For more info, e-mail Jennifer at gaddis@uiuc.edu
